Stanford Tour Group 2 Day 4

Stanford tour Group 2 Day 4 (13/7/2018)

This is our fourth day of excitement and reward here in Stanford. We were brought into enjoying the ‘Message in the Music’ by our teacher, Ashley Newby. She helped us to connate ourselves and our inner qualities with music, when she asked us to pick our personal anthem- a song of any language that represents ourselves. It seemed to be unrealistic when she asked us to make up a story in mind and choose a playlist that can retell the story and be interpreted by other groups, however, everything came into reality, we succeeded, and we eventually had a profound insight that music, can in fact be a source of communication and expression.

We then proceeded to our insightful lesson of democracy. We had an invaluable experience of participating in a debate on whether democracy is beneficial to the society on the whole, guided by our teacher, Geoffrey Upton. He stimulated us to actually reflect on the benefits and drawbacks of the main types of political systems, with democracy being split into representative and direct democracy. It was unforgettably inspiring and most importantly had brought all of us the interest to political structures!

The multicultural exhibition tonight was spectacular. Not only had we received surprises from students from other countries, like Brazil and the Philippines, of their interest in our Chinese culture, we were also amazed and were truly appealed to shows they have put on. The dancings, singing shows, trying out their food, and most of all, the learning of their language were all superb. The exhibition was also incredibly meaningful when we further gathered with our foreign friends and chatted with them. Tonight was a night of happiness and excitement!

Overall, the classes today were inspiring and insightful, and the multi cultural exhibition was a perfect stage for us to promote our Chinese culture and to appreciate others. Today was an incredible day here at Stanford.
