Stanford Day

15th July, 2018

Clear skies welcomed us into the Golden Gate City. The city bore much difference to Hong Kong, with its colourful homes and green sidewalks.

Our first stop was the Californian Academy of Science. Interactive exhibits and displays educated us on the importance of rainforest preservation, the wonders of evolution on the African continent,clever ways animals camouflage themselves with colour, and the intriguing marine life. The academy's resident albino alligator, Claude, smiled at us as we were leaving. It was an insightful experience.

The Golden Gate Bridge soon loomed ahead of us. We spent some time at the visitors' platform taking photographs and admiring the beautiful San Francisco Bay. We felt honoured to be able to visit the world-renown landmark.

We were dropped off at the Fisherman's Wharf. We went to Pier 39 for souvenirs and snacks. There were many visitors there and we had to spend some time maneuvering the crowd. We realised that San Francisco was indeed a bustling city full of life. We left the Pier with a newfound respect for the city.

We were all wondering why a simple house meeting had to take half an hour when the counsellors took out cake! Today is the birthday of our dear Bridget. Happy 15th birthday, Bridget! We all wish you a prosperous year ahead full of joy and laughter.

It was a fruitful day and we are all refreshed and ready for the next day.

Today we started off as usual with breakfast. However, after such a mundane everyday task, we had the opportunity to visit the famous SLAC laboratory just a couple minutes' drive away. The only word the lab could be described as was awe-inspiring. Although we had quite a hard time in understanding the terminology the tour guide used, it was still an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The metal tubes that housed the accelerators were rather massive and we were a little surprised at how much work and effort went into making sure each measurement and result was precisely accurate. The time we spent there was a bit on the short side though. We just wish we could have stayed there longer. Nevertheless, the pressed pennies will definitely serve as an item of sentiment. Stanford Tour 2018 Group 6 Day 2

Stanford tour 2018 Group 6 Day 2 11th July, 2018 It’s our first day in Stanford. We did quite a lot of things throughout the day, having our first lesson in Stanford, meeting new friends from different parts of the world, touring around Stanford and conducting joint exercises to know more about, not just people around us, but also ourselves while doing such exercises. Our first lesson in Stanford is about Design Thinking. We think it is very important for us, because it inspire us to jump out of the box, jump outside or comfort zone and jumpstart our brains to brainstorm out imaginative ideas. We all think that Design Thinking is very important, because it really helps us to know how to deal with our Global Solution Project(GSP). After the GSP kickoff, we were introduced to our group mates from different parts of the world. All of us acted a lot more comfortably during the first meeting of the GSP. Stanford Tour 2018 Day 8 Group 6

Stanford Tour 2018 Day 8 Group 6 17th July, 2018 We started off the day with a visit to the digital anatomy lab tour and we had a neuroscience class in the afternoon. Then, we had a college panel talk and a fire pit night with our international friends. The digital anatomy lab tour was very eye opening for us, as we never had a chance to see those organs in real life, like the hearts, lungs and brains. It builds on the knowledge we learnt in  biology lesson, which made it extra meaningful for us. We got to learn about the structures and functions of various organs. We were amazed by the complexity of the human body and the knowledge the instructors have. Next, we had a neuroscience class.
