Stanford Tour Day 10 Group 2
Today, we had Visual Storytelling in the Digital Age with Joel Simon. We mainly learned about 3 aspects which made a compelling photo, which were story, composition and lighting. At first, we were really surprised by how Joel conducted the lesson. Normally, teachers would set up the agenda of their lesson by themselves before the lesson starts, but Joel set up the agenda during the class, after he asked us what we wanted to know more about photography. He also inspired us a lot by telling us it didn’t matter how good you were at taking photos, all that mattered was how the photo reflected the story of your life. We really enjoyed this lesson as we also had the chance to take photos around the Memorial Church. It was really fun and we were really grateful for this opportunity to learn more about photography.
After lunch, we had Dadaist Games with Margaret. We made our poems and stories using surrealism techniques like mad libs, erasure and much more. It was really interesting because we had never thought of creating something new using other people’s works. We really liked how Margaret engaged us to try and write our own poems by using fun activities and examples. She inspired us to think creatively from a different perspective. Although this lesson was really fun and intriguing, it was the last lesson we were going to have in this study tour. We were really unwilling to leave the classroom as we didn’t want the tour to end so quickly.
During the cluster dinner, we ate a lot of delicious food. We were really full after the dinner. During the dinner, we also went out of our comfort zone and chatted with other students from other countries. We had a lot of fun chatting and eating. It was a blast! We were really surprised by how brave we were by taking the initiative to talk to the foreigners.
After the cluster dinner, we had our final preparation for our Global Solution Project. We finished making our poster and also prepared for our presentation tomorrow. Although we were really tired and anxious about tomorrow, we couldn’t wait to share with others about what we researched and prepared. We really hope that everyone would like our work.
All in all, today was a fun but fatigue day.
