Day 7 Group 1

This morning we had a SLAC tour. We visited the linear accelerator and learnt a lot about how the hard x-ray laser is made from electrons through long copper pipes for taking stop-motion pictures of atoms and molecules. It was an amazing experience to learn so much about high-end technology and understood how much technology has improved throughout the ages.

After lunch, we learnt about the principles of cognitive neuroscience. It was a really informative class as we learnt a lot about different parts of the brain and the process of thinking.

Then, we had our third GSP meeting. We worked efficiently and we discussed all aspects of the project in detail. I learnt how to accept everyone's ideas and find a conclusion.

After dinner, we went to the field to play Capture the Flag with participants from House 1047. It was an intense game and we had a lot of fun. It was an enjoyable experience and I learnt to cooperate with new people.

We started off our day with circular economics with Anne-Laure Strong. It was a great class with very interactive activities. We understood the difference between linear and circular economics and how important it is to strive for sustainability. We were encouraged to plan a business under circular economy and we learnt to think out of the box and analyse the different problems that we are going to have when we are setting up a business. After lunch, we had a lesson on nature, nurture and epigenetics. Sebastian Alvarado was a really animated and lovely man and although the topic was new and challenging, it was interesting and fun and we were all amazed by how complex DNA actually is. He even took us to his lab to look at colour-changing fishes. It was definitely a rare experience. We were also given questions that we weren’t taught so that we could find an answer based on some given information.
