It was a sunlit
morning. We started off our day with the lesson of democracy conducted by Professor
Geoffrey Upton,it truly enabled us to look at the issue “Why democracy and
why not democracy” at a brand new perspective. Geoffrey prompted us
with leading questions which led us to realize the ambiguity of democracy, as
it was never absolutely righteous or illicit. Instead, it was interrelated to the
political system and the social system of the country, as well as the education
level of the voters who directly impact elections of decision makers.
After lunch, we
proceeded to the visual storytelling class conducted by Joel Simon. We grasped
the skill of taking photos with the three key elements, story, composition, and
light. He also inspired us with his immense passion in photography, by highlighting
the core of photography, which is “to capture the moment that will evoke your
unique story at the place”.
Last but definitely
not the least, it came to the highlight of the tour, the multicultural
exhibition. Watching the performances from different countries across the
globe (including Brazil, Philippines, Switzerland, France etc.), we assimilated with the distinctive customs and practices of them and even got the chance to join
in their dance with their traditional music! We as Chinese also shared our skill
of writing Chinese calligraphy and promoted our own festivals and its habitual
routine, namely the spring couplets for the Lunar New Year, and the lanterns
for the Mid Autumn Festival. We all experienced the strong sense of intimacy
being a global citizen, as how we gathered together singing and dancing
blissfully by the end of the cultural meet, not to mention how reluctant we
were to let it come to an end. It was indeed a hectic yet fruitful day, and we
are looking forward to the weekend activities tomorrow!
