Stanford Tour 2018 Group 4 Day 2
Today was our first full day in Stanford and our group was very thrilled for the day. We had a global solutions kickoff along with other people from other countries joining this program. We had an insight on what the global solution project was and what were we going to do for it. The global solution project required us to design an island with our own education, political background. Our group was split up and we met other people who came from a different place from us, such as Brazil, Philippines, Switzerland etc. They were all really friendly and we had so much fun with them. In addition, through the team building conducted then, we realised that despite the differences in our background and ethnicity, we all indeed had many similarities and could connect on a personal level quickly, for example we had similar hobbies and interest while we shared the differences in our culture.
After lunch, we joined a class on visual design thinking. The topic that we were learning was kind of abstract but our instructor, Bill, uses an interactive way to engage us in the lesson. We also learnt five steps to come up with a good idea and tried to visualise an imaginary place. We learn how visualizing things could help with our creativity and thinking which could be applied in our further studies effectively. Furthermore, we had our first project meeting with our global solution project group and we kicked off our discussion about our island. We made up names, religion and chose the global issues we would like to focus on for our island. Our groupmates shared different ideas and we learnt to listen to other opinions with empathy and compromise together. It was very intriguing and fascinating. Last but not least, we ended our day with a campus tour around Stanford and we enjoy it a lot. We get to see the stunning architectures and the tranquil environment around. The architecture here was really different from Hong Kong and we even got to see a cute rabbit jumping around! Although some of us are suffering from jetlag, we all have a great time overall and we really look forward to the upcoming days.
