Stanford Study Tour - Day 2
Today we met our Global Solutions Project teammates for the first time and had our first class that was on “Cracking Codes”. The GSP ice-breaking activity not only gave us a valuable opportunity to meet people from all around the world, but also allowed us to understand that although we are from different countries with different cultural backgrounds, we are all human beings with thoughts and feelings that deserve to be acknowledged and respected. Through the activity, we managed to get to know each other very quickly, which facilitated in the enhanced productivity and cohesiveness of our work. On the other hand, the “Cracking Codes” class was intriguing to say the least. Even though we were a little taken aback by how actively responsive the professor expected us to be at first, we quickly overcame our initial surprise and became much more interactive. Overall speaking, the lesson was fun and conversely different compared to our usual learning methods in Hong Kong.
We went on a tour around campus in the evening as well. We got to see the many picturesque buildings around Stanford and learned about the history of the university. The size of the campus was a little surprising; the buildings were spread out which created a sense of spaciousness. Being so used to the towering skyscrapers and crowded infrastructures in Hong Kong, it was a refreshing way to get used to our home for the coming two weeks. All in all, today was a fruitful and exciting start to kick off our time here at Stanford.

Group 2
Today was a wonderful day. We started the day off with a good healthy breakfast. We met our Global Solutions Project teammates and played some introductory games that not only gave us a opportunity to understand each other on the surface but also on a much deeper level.
We headed to our first class of this programme: Visual Design Thinking with our instructor, Bill who was a very charismatic, charming and endearing teacher. He encouraged us to think outside the box to have a dimensional perspective when we encounter issues. He provided multiple visual aids to help stimulate our minds such as using different coloured-fonts, sticky notes and mind maps. We learnt about the importance of using visual aids to keep the audience' interest and that it is important in the thinking process. Our class was very engaged in Bill's class which helped spark our interest in things that we've never considered in the past. This gave us a taste of how we're going to proceed with our GSPs together with our other groupmates.
Other than Bill's class, we also had our first GSP meeting with our groups. The discussions were very fruitful. With the aid of our wonderful teaching assistants, we learnt how to provide solutions to global issues. It was especially rewarding because we were able to learn from different cultures, their opinions and their perspectives. As we are from different backgrounds and cultures, we were able to voice out very different and diverse thinking.
All in all, it was a great start to the program and we are all looking forward to the rest of the trip.
